About 2024 CodeKids Awards (WA school students' coding awards)
CodeKids will present the CodeKids awards to WA students in Perth. Parents and students are encouraged to nominate recipients for the 2024 CodeKids Awards. Selected individuals will receive medals, prizes, and a cash award at the ceremony in late January 2025.
Approximately 30 students, including finalists, are expected to be recognised.
Eligibility:
Current and past students from CodeKids campuses, after-school coding clubs, and school partners are eligible for nomination for the CodeKids Awards. Outstanding students from other schools may also be considered by special invitation from CodeKids. Nominees must meet at least one of the following criteria.
1) Open Category Nominations by Students & Parents: Candidates are invited to submit a short (1–2 minute) video presentation explaining either an existing coding project or a new project concept or idea (e.g., created in Scratch, MakeCode, Python, Godot, Unity, as an app, or as a website). The video should highlight why the project is meaningful to them and be both visually appealing and informative. The video presentation is the preferred method. However, We also accept written explanations with picture references and/or data files.
2) Achievement-Based Nominations by Students & Parents: Candidates submit a short video or substantial evidence describing their accomplishments in national, state-level, or school-level coding/STEM competitions. The video presentation is the preferred method. However, We also accept written explanations with picture references.
3) Nominations by CodeKids Team: The CodeKids team will select students who have shown a commitment to coding for over three years and have demonstrated significant progress in their studies.
The nomination fee is $75 per candidate, which includes three (3) tickets to the Awards ceremony event and one $50 CodeKids class credit voucher. Food and a gift bag will be provided to all guests attending the event. The nomination closes on 29/12/2024.
CodeKids Awards Ceremony
6:00–8:00 PM, 28 January 2025
City of Perth Library Auditorium, 573 Hay St, Perth
This ceremony event will bring together tech industry leaders, school principals, tech entrepreneurs, Australian universities, and government representatives, with media coverages.
CodeKids Appreciation Awards (Instructors, Parents, Schools, Businesses, Community)
On the same day as the CodeKids Awards ceremony, CodeKids will recognize the contributions of instructors, parents, schools, businesses, and community supporters with the special CodeKids Appreciation Awards.
Future Plans (2025/2026)
Starting in 2025/2026, the CodeKids awards will expand to include all WA school students.
CodeKids aims to collaborate with key stakeholders—including ECU and other universities, the City of Perth, the WA state government, participating schools, and corporate, media, and event sponsors—to launch the inaugural WA School Students’ Coding Challenge during National Science Week in 2025.
Open to all WA school students, this coding project competition will accept submissions throughout 2025 and 2026. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries, and winners will be announced during National Science Week 2026.
