What is the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge?

The Australian STEM Video Game Challenge is a prestigious, nation-wide annual competition for students from Year 3 to Year 12. The challenge tasks students with creating their best video game based on a specific theme. (https://www.stemgames.org.au/)

The Game Programming & Australian STEM Video Game Challenge program is divided into two stages.

The initial stage (this stage: 1 term) of the program, designed for Years 5-12 students, aims to teach students how to use fundamental tools in Godot and manipulate them through coding. In the subsequent development stage (3 terms), participants will apply these skills to create their own games for the competition. Expert mentors from CodeKids will provide guidance and support, assisting students in bringing their game development aspirations to life.

By the end of the program, students will have taken their game idea from concept to a final product, ready to compete in the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge. Students will become proficient in using Godot, a game engine that combines Python-like programming with industry-level development tools.
