The Robotics programming lab program (ages 9-18) is a core Codekids programming subject, which is one of the best robotics programming programs in Perth.

The program introduces children to a range of hardware components such as motors and gear-trains based on the Vex IQ system: a top-level robotics platform built to extend beyond the level of Lego Mindstorms. It also allows students to apply the block-based coding language of Scratch to complete competition-based challenges: ranging from a maze-solving robot challenge and a sumo robot challenge. Robotics offers a physical, educational tool for children to think outside of the box, to solve real world problems.

The program uses the Vex IQ system to design robots to solve real world problems. The program combines both technical and computing skills to ensure that students have a deeper understanding of the world of robotics.

In each lesson, students work in pairs to build mechanical components, which they then program and test while completing a range of challenges. Students also utilise digital robotic simulators to further develop their programming skills. The course is designed to facilitate the growth of students’ programming skills and helps students progress from the beginner-level Scratch to a more complex coding language, such as Python.
