Python Club for Primary School students at Willetton senior high school (Open to All students)

The Python Club for Primary School Students is designed for young learners aged 9–12 who are ready to move beyond block-based coding and begin learning one of the world’s most widely used programming languages.

This course focuses on building a strong foundation in Python programming through engaging, hands-on projects and coding challenges. Students will learn core programming concepts including variables, loops, functions, data structures, and problem-solving techniques, while also receiving an introduction to object-oriented programming (OOP). The emphasis is on developing logical thinking, computational skills, and coding confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

As students progress, they will complete increasingly challenging projects that strengthen their understanding of programming and prepare them for more advanced study. Most students typically spend one to two years in this program to develop a solid foundation in Python.

Experienced students who demonstrate strong programming ability and maturity may be recommended by their teacher to progress to the Python club for Secondary School Students, even if they are under 12 years of age.

By the end of the program, students will have:

• Built a solid foundation in Python programming.
• Learned core programming concepts and introductory object-oriented programming (OOP).
• Developed computational thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
• Created a range of fun and practical Python projects.
• Gained the confidence and skills to progress to more advanced Python, Game Development, and AI studies.

Prerequisite:

There are no prerequisites for this course, but experience with MakeCode or Scratch coding is highly recommended.

Equipment:

Students are advised to bring a laptop to class.

Students can lend one from CodeKids for $100 per term.
